Mountain Biking Trails
Easiest
1. Duster (1.2 miles; avg. grade 3.15%) Service road with beautiful views of the
Yampa Valley.
More Difficult
2. Elkhead Loop (1.1 miles; avg. grade 0.69% ) Start/finish at top of gondola,
varied singletrack/service road. North leg recommended route to Duster.
3. Cathy's Cutoff (0.5 miles; avg. grade 4%) Single track, connecting Pete's and
Sunshine.
4. Sunshine Loop (2.0 miles; avg. grade 4.6%, max. grade 10.06%) Challenging,
more difficult singletrack through Sunshine Bowl.
5. Yoo Hoo (0.8 miles; avg. grade 4.46%, max. grade 13.77%) Combination of single
and double track with challenging downhill section.
6. Zig Zag (4.7 miles; avg. grade 8.34%, max. grade 15.78%) Most popular
trail on mountain. Descends from top of gondola with single/double track
including challenging terrain and steep downhills.
Most Difficult
7. Creekside (1.7 miles; avg. grade 8.3%, max. grade 15.57%) Singletrack with
elevation drop of 1,000 ft. including very steep sections and several creek
crossings. Trail ends at Burgess Creek Road. Proceed uphill on Burgess Creek
Road to access Zig Zag trail and the ski resort.
8. Huffman's (0.5 miles; avg. grade 10.16%) Twisty singletrack once used as old
horse trail by area ranchers.
9. Moonlight (0.8 miles; avg. grade 9.28%, max. grade 21%) Singletrack with
numerous switchbacks and 12” treadwidth in areas.
10. Pete's Wicked (2.9 miles; avg. grade of 9%) Challenging trail with steep
terrain, sharp switchbacks and rugged trail conditions.
11. Sitz (0.3 miles; avg. grade 12%) Mostly singletrack with several steep sections.
12. Spur Run (1.0 miles; avg. grade 4.86%) Dirt service road, most direct route to
Valley View.
13. Storm Peak Challenge (2.2 miles; avg. grade 10.06%, max. grade 12.1%)
Extremely challenging ride to top of Continental Divide including steep terrain,
sharp switchbacks and rugged trail conditions mostly on dirt service road.
14. Valley View (4.37 miles; avg. grade 6.11%, max, grade 11.78%) Primarily
singletrack to ski area base including cross-country style, rolling terrain,
switchbacks and uphill/downhill sections.
15. Mountain View (avg. grade undetermined) Singletrack trail that leaves ski
area boundary, connecting to US Forest Service's Continental Divide Trail.
Hiking Trails
1H. Thunderhead Trail (3.81 miles) Trail starts at either top or bottom
of gondola. 2,180 vertical feet gain/loss during this moderately rugged
single track mountain hike. Hikers need to carry plenty of water and use
appropriate footwear. Bikes prohibited on top 2/3rds of trail.
2H. Vista Nature Trail (0.86 miles) Begins/ends at top of gondola, including fi rst
section which is wide, graded gravel path that is relatively flat and handicap
accessible. Second portion is dirt, single track. Bikes prohibited.
3H. Chisholm Trail (1.62 miles) A challenging hike from top of gondola to Four Points
Hut (9.716 feet) on service road. Bikes may be encountered along this entire trail.

- First Aid Services are only available during Gondola operating hours.
Daily 6/18-8/29, weekends & holidays 9/3-9/19, Mon.-Sat. 10am-4pm,
Sun. 9:30am-4pm
- Hiking is available on most trails, however, to minimize encounters with
mountain bike traffic we recommend the Thunderhead Hiking Trail and Vista
Nature Trail. All trails have uphill and downhill traffic.
- Please pack it in, pack it out – do not litter your National Forest!
- Do not feed or approach wildlife.
- Fire hazard exists. Smoking is prohibited.
