NATIONAL TEAM MEMBER SCOTT ANFANG ASSUMES NEW TERRAIN PARK MANAGER POSITION

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-November 25, 2008- Scott Anfang, American Association of Snowboard Instructors’ (AASI) National Snowboard Team member, has assumed the new position of Terrain Park Manager for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation.

“We are delighted to have someone as talented and accomplished as Scott move into a leadership position overseeing all aspects of Steamboat’s terrain parks and pipes,” said Jim Schneider, vice-president of skier services for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “Scott will ensure that the resort’s terrain parks are accessible for all guests, regardless of ability level, as well as remain appealing to the family segment that remains at the core of Steamboat's brand.”

In his new role, Anfang, who has been with the resort for over a decade as an instructor and Snowboard Technical Director, will be responsible for the overall direction of the resort’s terrain parks, including managing all guest service aspects, developing terrain features with park staff, strengthening the ParkWise Safety Initiative and Code of Conduct, and overseeing the Freestyle Park & Pipe clinic programs. In addition, he will be assisting in the daily operations, scheduling and coaching of instructors as well as developing and administering continuing education and training programs.

“My goal and that of the resort is to maintain a park and pipe that not only satisfies but provides an opportunity for individuals to progress on a number of levels,” said Anfang. “With the leadership of the current terrain park crew, along with the grooming team, I expect we’ll elevate guest service in the terrain parks across the resort to a higher standard.”

Born in California, Anfang began riding when snowboarding exploded onto the scene in the late 80’s and transferred his passion into teaching others in the mid 90’s. He is on the forefront of teaching technique and travels across the United States and the world sharing his vision as one of the elite six members of the 2008-2012 AASI/PSIA (American Association of Snowboard Instructors/Professional Ski Instructors of America) National Team.  He has worked at Steamboat since 1995, moved to staff trainer for the resort in 1997 and continues to share his love of the sport on a daily basis with guests and staff.

Involved with the AASI National Team since 2004, Anfang has held the position of Rocky Mountain examiner since 2000 and achieved certification in Children’s Accreditation (2003), Freestyle Accreditation (2000) and Level III Accreditation (1999). In Colorado Anfang was instrumental in developing the freestyle accreditation program in the Rocky Mountain division of AASI, where he is also a certification examiner.

Anfang’s goals will be aided by the addition of a fully dedicated tower winch cat for the terrain park. The resort recently acquired a new Prinoth BR-350 tower winch groomer, allowing the current tower to be realigned specifically for the park.  In addition to the new snowcat, three grooming machines are solely dedicated to the terrain park and superpipe, utilizing a state-of-the-art Zaugg 18-foot monster superpipe cutter several times a week throughout the season. The Zaugg creates an elliptical shape, which makes for a smoother landing in the pipe and allows an individual to gain speed easier, resulting in more hits during the run. Grooming duties will remain with the veteran slope team of Frank Case, Kevin Cates, Heath Corwin and Chase Davis, who have maintained the parks and superpipe for the past three years.

Mavericks Terrain Park, located in Bashor Bowl and serviced by a dedicated lift, is Steamboat’s primary terrain park  and features 14 acres of terrain for all ability levels, Mavericks Superpipe, outdoor music system as well as numerous rails and boxes. In addition, Mini-Mav, a beginner pipe, with eight-foot walls, is perfect for novice riders just around the corner in Rabbit Ears Terrain Park. The resort's third park, Sunbeam located on Spike near Rendezvous Saddle, contains the skier/boarder cross course and various entry-level fun features.
