STORM DUMPS NEARLY 3 FEET OF CHAMPAGNE POWDERâ„¢ ON STEAMBOAT

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-March 26, 2009-The Steamboat Ski Resort and surrounding Yampa Valley is currently under a winter storm advisory as nearly 3 feet of Champagne Powder snow has blanketed the mountain in the past four days and more powder is forecasted through the weekend.

"Steamboat continues to offer some of the best snow conditions in Colorado and a summit base that is zeroing in on 100 inches," said Rob Perlman, vice president of sales & marketing for the resort. "Spring in Steamboat is notorious for big storms, and this storm is just the beginning of what will be an incredible spring."

As of 5am, Steamboat is reporting 9 inches of new snow at mid-mountain and 13 inches at the summit overnight, with a 70-inch mid-mountain base and 99-inch summit base. Over the past four days, 21 inches as piled up at mid-mountain and 30 inches at the summit.  This season’s snow total of 334.25 inches (27.85 feet) is closing in on Steamboat's annual average snowfall of 338 inches.

A winter storm advisory remains in effect in Northwestern Colorado through 6am tomorrow. A strong early spring storm will bring more snow through tonight as an energetic early spring storm moves across western Colorado today. Widespread snow, heavy at times, will continue over the mountains of western Colorado this morning. Total accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are expected by Friday morning. Clearing skies spread southeastward on Friday and northerly flow follows into Saturday with dry weather and cool temperatures. The next system arrives late Sunday with another round of mountain snow and very cold temperatures.

Steamboat also plans to put a spring in your step during Springalicious featuring a boatload of free music and unique events like Cardboard Classic and the Splashdown Pond Skim. Live music is a constant staple of the "Music Capitol of the Rockies" and this spring will be no exception. Three FREE concerts will rock the boat including Citizen Cope tonight at 7pm; Ryan Shaw on Saturday, April 4th; and a blow-out end-of-season show on Sunday, April 12th by Armed Forces Band of the Year-Catchpenny followed by three-time Grammy winner, Ozomatli.
