Mountain Information

Steamboat Resort offers a wide variety of terrain that suits beginner skiers and riders as well as experts seeking more extreme challenges. It’s a great mountain for families with young kids, mixed-ability groups, and advanced skiers and riders alike. Sitting right in the middle of that spectrum are Steamboat’s blue runs—perfect for building confidence, refining technique, and enjoying long, flowing turns.

Accessible from Thunderhead Express, the Gondola, Storm Peak Express, Morningside Lift, Sundown Express, Sunshine Express, and Four Points Lift (depending on the trail), these are Steamboat’s top ten blue runs:

  • Quickdraw
  • Rainbow to Moonlight
  • Buddy’s Run
  • Flintlock
  • Vagabond
  • Heavenly Daze
  • High Noon
  • Sunshine Lift Line
  • Over Easy
  • Lower Concentration

When snowfall is limited, sticking to groomed blue terrain is often recommended. Steamboat typically maintains a solid base, keeping these runs in great shape while everyone waits for the next round of fresh snow.

Blue Runs Highlights

1. Quickdraw
Quickdraw has a great flow as it narrows into a gully on Sunshine Peak. It’s often less crowded and ideal for cruising or practicing turns.

2. Rainbow (Upper)
Upper Rainbow offers wide valley views and smooth, open terrain. It provides a slightly steeper blue pitch before reaching Rainbow Saddle, where the trail connects to Moonlight.

3. Moonlight
Moonlight follows the sun and leads back down to Sundown Express or Elkhead Express.

4. Buddy’s Run
A quintessential Steamboat blue, Buddy’s Run is named after Buddy Werner, whose statue stands at the top. The upper and lower sections are steeper, while the middle opens into flowing terrain with scenic valley views.

5. Flintlock
Located off Sunshine Peak, Flintlock opens into a peaceful meadow that feels like one of Steamboat’s hidden gems.

6. Vagabond
Vagabond features several rolling pitches from the top of Thunderhead Express before opening into a wide run past the teepee.

7. High Noon
High Noon leads toward Rendezvous Lodge and offers expansive views of the Flat Tops. It can be popular at times, but when conditions align, it’s a standout blue run.

Steamboat’s blue runs strike the perfect balance—challenging enough for beginner and intermediate skiers and riders, while still delivering smooth, fast, and fun turns for more advanced guests. These top ten blue runs are frequently groomed and remain go-to favorites for exploring the mountain.
