Steamboat isn't just a ski resort. It's Ski Town, U.S.A.®. It's a valley brimming with timeless western values and over 100 olympians. It's a place people are lucky to find as they lose themselves in the Champagne Powder® snow. It's a way of living and we're here to preserve it for you and all who follow in your bootsteps. We can't wait to welcome you and share The Steamboat Way.
"New Territory"

How long has it been since you stood on the rim and surveyed the mountain below? How long since you've explored territory that is untrammeled, untested, and unknown. You've spent all that time yearning for a chance to blaze that trail so unique it could be named after you. It's a pursuit not based in the glory, nor the fame, but for joy in the fresh and new.
"Hospitality"

Steamboat Springs is an old western town full of strangers who are friends you haven't yet made. It's a place where you feel like they know you Their smiles are their main stock in trade. A land where you live in the moment, though its history rides right next to you. Home is wherever your hat is, even if you're just passing through.
"Family Inheritance"

The West has always beckoned to the brave and free of heart, those who broke the trail and showed the way. They passed their love of freedom and adventure down the line, and their children's children show it still today. It's the pioneering spirit at its best. When mixed with real compassion it's a mighty potent strain and the kind of stock we favor in the West.
"The Colt"

The colt starts out on wobbly legs, but finds its stride in time. It's gaits are learned in fits and starts right at its' mothers side. To watch the young grow into life then run on wild and free, is such a joy to witness. It's the world as it should be.

Behind The Stories

WHY COWBOY POETRY?
Steamboat is celebrating 60 years of western heritage and community with a group of people who embody the very spirit of "The Steamboat Way." Cowboy poetry is as old as campfires, and it fits effortlessly in delivering the Steamboat story in a relevant and differentiating way to guests that have still yet to experience it. Cowboy culture has deep roots in the Yampa Valley and parallels the feeling you can only get skiing and riding in deep Champagne Powder® snow. The Steamboat Way isn't just another cliche moniker, but rather a way of living – a code to live by. Here people are a bit more welcoming, friendly, and down-to-earth. A handshake and a tip of the hat still have meaning when you draw upon this legacy of lasting western heritage.

Meet The Crew

The Cowboy Poet: Randy Rieman

A preeminent cowboy in his own right, Randy Rieman is a horse trainer, rope maker, and cowboy poet. Randy has the unique ability to not only recite, but meaningfully deliver the feeling of riding in wide open spaces and the sense of freedom and getting away from it all that skiing, and riding demonstrate so well. "You're sharing a part of your world with maybe an audience that hasn't got to experience it in the way that you have, but they've had a taste of it somewhere. What you say in these pieces of poetry, that's in simple western vernacular, that resonates with folks because it's real."

Local Rancher and Skier: Ray Heid

Ray Heid and his family at Del's Triangle 3 Ranch in North Routt County, have been ranching in the valley for many years. A ski jumper, ski racing trainer, and prominent area cowboy known for his elk duster, Ray offers a sense of bliss and freedom that he reflects on each time he clips into a pair of skis. "For my skis are the things that give me my wings and make me an eagle to [be] free." This campaign, this creative effort, these locations, and our friends-both newly forged and those fond and kindred, make for a powerful recipe to capture the intimate feeling of belonging that guests are lucky enough to find among the groomers and glades of Steamboat.

DIRECTOR: RICHARD BULLOCK

These campaign videos feature talent and locations from right in our backyard, and Richard Bullock was chosen to direct based on his ability to relate to the cowboy culture that thrives here and evoke genuine relatability among the cast. "If the poetry was about cowboy culture and riding on the range, then the same words fit perfectly against that spirit or feeling of riding in the snow, that being far away from responsibility, that sense of freedom, and open spaces. They seem to fit together kind of effortlessly."
