    Our favorite downhill bike racing series returns on select summer Sundays. Soak up the best of summer on the downhill trails at Steamboat. Join the Captain of the Boat gravity race series and get in on the fun and camaraderie.

    Race Details
    Race Day Registration /Check- in2:00 PM – 4:00 PM in-person registration and check-in will be available on race day at Steamboat Bike Shop, on the promenade level of the Sheraton at the base of the mountain. All participants must sign a waiver at check-in. Racers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver.
    Entry Fees$29 per individual race or $99 for all races. Purchased on-site at registration
    Race Schedule4:15 PM – Load the Steamboat Gondola
    4:40 PM – Meet at the top of the race course. Racing begins immediately following the pre-race meeting.
    Awards Ceremony – Immediately after racing concludes on the Steamboat Stage
    Race DatesJune 28 – Mutton Buster/Lower EZ Rider (Young Guns on Lower EZ Rider)
    July 12 – Gunsmoke
    July 26 – Lower Rustler’s Ridge > Huckleberry
    Aug. 9 – Lower Rawhide/Wrangler’s Gulch (Young Guns on Wrangler’s Gulch)
    Aug. 23 – Full Rustler’s Ridge, the Quick and the Chainless race
    Racer CategoriesYoung Guns: ages 8 -10 years old
    Groms: 11 – 13 years old
    Teens: 14 -17 years old
    Funhogs: 18 and up, casual racing
    Open: 13 and up, competitive bracket
    What to BringProtective riding gear, appropriate clothing and padding and a full-face helmet are recommended. Bikes must have knobby tires and fully operational front and rear disc brakes. Bikes designed for downhill riding are highly recommended and race officials may reject bikes deemed unfit for use in this event.Bike may be rejected by the race officials if they are deemed unfit for use in the event. It is highly recommended that your bike have a minimum of 6 inches of travel, functional disc brakes on both wheels and be specific to aggressive downhill type use.
    The Terrain + What to ExpectRaces are 5- 15 minutes in length, and take advantage of our Blue and Black terrain, such as Upper Rustlers, Lower Rustlers, Lower Rustlers' to Huckleberry, Gunsmoke, Lower Rawhide, and Wrangler's Gulch. Race days typically see around 30 to 40 riders.
