Our favorite downhill bike racing series returns on select summer Sundays. Soak up the best of summer on the downhill trails at Steamboat. Join the Captain of the Boat gravity race series every other Sunday (July 13, 27, August 10, 24 and Sept 7) and get in on the fun and camaraderie.
Details
When: July 13, 27, August 10, 24 and Sept 7
Time: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Meet: Steamboat Sports, 2305 Mt. Werner Circle
Register: On race day from 2:00 –4:00 PM in person to sign waivers
Cost: $29 per race
10 Racer Categories
Young Guns: (8-11 years old), male and female groups
Groms: (12-16 years old), male and female groups
Funhogs: (17-34 years old) just looking to have fun, male and female groups
Masters: (35+), male and female groups
Open: (all ages) higher end/competitive, male and female groups
Day of Race Event Schedule
2–4 PM Check in at Steamboat Bike Shop in Steamboat Sports Sheraton (All racers must visit registration)
4:15 PM Load the Steamboat Gondola
4:40 PM Meet at top of the race section. Race starts immediately following the meeting.
Awards to follow the race on the Steamboat Stage.
What to Bring
Protective riding gear, appropriate clothing and padding and a full-face helmet are recommended. Bikes must have knobby tires and fully operational front and rear disc brakes. Bikes designed for downhill riding are highly recommended and race officials may reject bikes deemed unfit for use in this event.
The Terrain + What to Expect
Races are 5- 15 minutes in length, and take advantage of our Blue and Black terrain. Race days typically see around 30 to 40 riders.
No E-bikes will be permitted.
Race Schedule:
July 27th: Gunsmoke
August 10th: Lower Rustlers
August 24th: Lower Rawhide
September 7th: The Quick and the Chainless- Full Rustlers
Bike may be rejected by the race officials if they are deemed unfit for use in the event. It is highly recommended that your bike have a minimum of 6 inches of travel, functional disc brakes on both wheels and be specific to aggressive downhill type use.
