Think Steamboat is just for winter? Think again.

When the snow melts, the mountain transforms into a warm-weather playground filled with trails, patios, live music, family activities, and wide-open adventure. And one of the best ways to experience it all? On a bike.

Biking connects the resort base area, the Yampa River, and downtown Steamboat Springs into one seamless summer day. Even without skis on your feet, there’s still plenty to explore — and two wheels might be the most fun way to do it.

Here’s how to build the perfect summer bike day in Steamboat.

Step 1: Start at Steamboat Sports
Begin your adventure at Steamboat Sports in Steamboat Square. E-cruisers are a great option for families and casual riders — comfortable, smooth, and ideal for covering more ground without overexerting.

The rental team will get you dialed so you can focus on enjoying the ride.

Step 2: Cruise the Resort Base Area
Summer at the resort has its own kind of energy.

Ride through Steamboat Square, take in views of Mt. Werner, and watch mountain bikers descending purpose-built trails. The gondola spins in the summer, patios fill up with guests, and the base area becomes a hub for events, music, and outdoor dining.

It’s proof that the mountain doesn’t slow down when winter ends — it just shifts gears.

Step 3: Fuel Up at The Range
The Range Food & Drink Hall is a perfect mid-ride stop.

Grab lunch on the patio, sip something cold, and play a round of cornhole while soaking in the views of the lower mountain. It’s relaxed, family-friendly, and central to the base area summer scene.

Step 4: Connect to the Yampa River Core Trail
From the resort, it’s easy to link onto the Yampa River Core Trail — a paved pathway that runs alongside the river and connects the base area to downtown.

Flat, scenic, and accessible, the Core Trail is the recreational backbone of the valley. You’ll pass parks, open space, and plenty of photo-worthy river views.

Step 5: Stop at Howelsen Hill
Howelsen Hill Ski Area is a must-see along the way.

Known as the oldest continuously operating ski area in North America, it’s part of what makes Steamboat Ski Town, U.S.A.®. In the summer, you can check out the ski jumps, ride the alpine slide, and enjoy panoramic views of town.

It’s a reminder that Steamboat’s history and adventure run year-round.

Step 6: Explore Downtown Steamboat
Roll into downtown along Lincoln Avenue and park your bikes to wander.

Browse Western staples at F.M. Light & Sons, grab ice cream from Fuzziwig's Candy Factory, or pop into one of the many restaurants, breweries, or boutiques that line the street.

Downtown is lively in the summer — patios buzz, river tubers float by, and the Western character of Steamboat is on full display.

Step 7: Catch a Classic Steamboat Experience
Depending on the day, you might pass horses and bulls gearing up for the Steamboat Pro Rodeo — a summer tradition that blends Western heritage with mountain-town fun.

Even just riding by, you’ll feel the personality that sets Steamboat apart.

Step 8: Ride Back with River Views
Cruise back toward the resort along the Core Trail as the afternoon light settles over the valley.

It’s an easy, scenic ride — and a great way to appreciate how connected everything is when you explore by bike.

Step 9: End the Day on the Mountain
Finish strong with dinner at Hazie's at the top of the gondola.

Colorado-inspired cuisine, sweeping Yampa Valley views, and a 9,000-foot sunset make for a memorable close to a full summer day.

Because even without skis, the mountain still delivers.

Summer in Steamboat, Reimagined
Biking is more than transportation — it’s a way to experience Steamboat differently.

It links the resort to the river, the river to downtown, and downtown back to the mountain. It lets you slow down, explore more, and build a day filled with food, history, scenery, and family time.

Winter may have made Steamboat famous, but summer proves there’s plenty to do long after the lifts stop spinning.
