Three Decades of Scholarship Support in the Yampa Valley
Published May 2026
The first step matters. So does the support that helps you take it.
Every spring, as the snow melts and the mountain shifts into its next season, Steamboat Ski Resort turns its attention to another kind of future — the students growing up in the Yampa Valley. For more than 30 years, the resort has helped local graduates find their line, offering support as they carve into whatever comes next.
Since 1997, 848 students across Routt County have received the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation (SSRC) Scholarships, totaling $1,176,595 in funding. This year added the next chapter to that story.

A New Class Takes the Next Run
In May of 2026, Steamboat Ski Resort awarded 16 new scholarships to graduating seniors Steamboat Springs High School, Hayden High School, SOROCO High School, and local home‑school programs through the Steamboat Ski & Resort Scholarship Fund at Yampa Valley Community Foundation. Steamboat also renewed 10 scholarships for next year, awarding a total of $59,000 this spring.
These scholarships help students pursue college, trade programs, and other post‑secondary paths — the kind of opportunities that can change a trajectory, widen a horizon, or simply make the next turn a little easier.

The Team Behind the Tracks
Each year, the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation Scholarship committee, made up of Steamboat employees, community members, and nonprofit leaders comes together to review scholarship applications. It’s a process that requires time, care, and a deep appreciation for the students who call this valley home.
They read every essay. They look at each student’s goals, challenges, and contributions. And they do it knowing that the decisions aren’t easy — especially when the applicant pool is as strong as it was this year. Steamboat received 60 applications from graduating seniors and continuing students from across Routt County – all students with incredible academic records, personal stories, and professional aspirations.
For the committee, it’s a reminder that the next generation is already stepping up — reflecting the leadership, resilience, curiosity, and sense of community that runs deep in the Yampa Valley.
A Snowballing Community Effort
The program is managed in partnership with the Yampa Valley Community Foundation (YVCF), which helps steward over 30 local scholarship funds. Through YVCF, students can tap into a network of scholarships that support a wide range of interests and futures. Many students who aren’t selected for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Scholarship Fund receive support through other YVCF‑managed programs, ensuring that more graduates across the valley have access to financial support.
Steamboat Ski Resort’s contribution is one part of a larger system — a system built on collaboration, generosity, and the belief that every student deserves a chance to drop into their next chapter with confidence.

Finding the Next Line
There’s no single route down the mountain, and there’s no single path after graduation. Some students head to college. Some pursue trades. Some explore new places or return home with new skills.
What matters is that they have the support to begin — and the encouragement to keep going.
For Steamboat Ski Resort, investing in students isn’t just about scholarships or class visits. It’s about helping the next generation find their footing, make their first tracks, and discover the lines they want to follow.
Because the future of this valley isn’t somewhere far off. It’s already here — growing, learning, and getting ready for what comes next. rich-text, responsive-table
