When the snow melts, the mountain transforms into a summer playground for curious minds, muddy sneakers, and big outdoor energy. Mountain Camp at Steamboat invites kids ages 5–16 to spend their summer days outside—exploring trails, playing games, discovering nature, and building confidence through movement and adventure.

It’s camp, the Steamboat way, welcoming, flexible, and rooted in the joy of being outside.

A Day on the Mountain
No two days at Mountain Camp look exactly the same, and that’s intentional. Campers might spend the morning playing games in the aspen groves, head out on a scavenger hunt near Burgess Creek, or ride the gondola to explore the top of the mountain. Throughout the week, counselors mix in nature exploration, STEM-inspired activities, water play, and creative downtime that lets kids reset and recharge.

Mountain Camp balances structure with freedom, giving kids room to explore while still feeling supported every step of the way.

We’re also one of the only day camps in Steamboat to offer day-of drop-ins, making it easy for families to plan ahead or decide last-minute.

Camper Groups by Age
To keep things comfortable, engaging, and age-appropriate, campers are grouped by age:

Yampa Campers | Ages 5 to entering 1st grade
Gentle introductions to the outdoors with guided play and discovery.

Routt Scouts | Entering 2nd–3rd grade
Big energy and growing independence, with more opportunities to explore and try new activities.

Pioneers | Entering 4th grade up to 16 years old
For older campers ready for bigger adventures, more independence, and expanded exploration across the mountain.

Flexible Registration That Works for You
Mountain Camp is designed with families in mind, and flexibility is at the core of the experience. It’s one of the most adaptable summer camp options in Steamboat, making it easy to build a schedule that works for your family, not the other way around.

Parents can book single days or multiple days, mix and match throughout the summer, and take advantage of a flexible pricing structure that supports both short stays and season-long plans. Whether you’re visiting for a long weekend or spending the entire summer in the Yampa Valley, Mountain Camp fits right in.

Kids can also add mountain bike lessons to any Mountain Camp day, allowing families to customize each day based on interests, energy levels, or weather without committing to a separate multi-day program.

And if questions come up, you’re never on your own. Our attentive Guest Services and Camp teams are here to help with planning, scheduling, and last-minute adjustments. From first questions to day-of logistics, we’re committed to making the process smooth and stress-free for parents.

More Than Just Camp
Every day at Mountain Camp is an adventure, but for kids who want to take it further, optional add-ons and specialty experiences add even more excitement.

Whitewater Rafting Adventures
On select dates throughout the summer, campers ages 7–16 can join whitewater rafting adventures on the Upper Colorado River. These full-day outings introduce campers to river travel, teamwork, and riparian ecosystems while floating through beautiful canyon scenery.

Designed with first-time rafters in mind, the mellow Class I–II rapids offer just the right amount of splash for a fun, confidence-building experience. Transportation, instruction, gear, and lunch are included, making rafting an easy add-on to a Mountain Camp week.

Mountain Bike Lessons Add-On
For campers entering 2nd grade and up, mountain bike lessons can be added to any Mountain Camp day. This popular option gives kids the chance to build bike-handling skills, gain confidence on downhill terrain, and experience Steamboat’s world-class trails in a safe, supportive setting led by professional instructors.

Mountain bike lessons are available as a same-day add-on for campers already registered for Mountain Camp and are grouped by ability level. Space is limited, and equipment requirements apply.

See You on the Mountain
At Mountain Camp, kids don’t just fill their summer days—they find their footing. They discover new trails, new skills, new friendships, and new confidence that carries far beyond the mountain.

Whether they’re splashing in the creek, cruising downhill on a bike, floating a river, or racing through wildflowers, every camper leaves a little braver, a little stronger, and more connected to this special place.

Come for a day or stay for the season. However you join us, we’ll be here—ready to welcome your camper with open arms.
