Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp offers a limited number of fully furnished employee housing at reasonable rates conveniently located about 1.5 miles from the resort. Housing is shared and is first come, first served and fills up quickly at the beginning of the winter season. When you move in, you’ll need to pay your first month’s rent and a deposit. During the interview process, you should be discussing housing needs with your interviewer. If they have a housing spot for you, you will receive a housing application and background check after you have received and signed your job offer. If you have any questions about housing, please contact our housing manager at 970-871-5140 or shousing@steamboat.com. You can also access information online at pondsatsteamboat.com.
There are other opportunities in Steamboat Springs and neighboring towns such as Oak Creek, Stagecoach, Hayden, Craig, and Clark. If you would like assistance finding available rentals, please reach out to Employee Housing.
Steamboat Springs operates a free bus service. Routes and times can be found online on the City of Steamboat Springs website. There is limited parking at the base of the mountain, so many employees opt to walk, ride the bus, or ride their bike to work. If you do bring your own car to Steamboat, make sure you are prepared for winter driving during the months of November through March. Our roads are properly maintained by the city, but can still get pretty icy and snowy in the winter months. Snow tires and an emergency kit would be prudent additions to your vehicle during those times.
Our pay period runs for two weeks, from Saturday through Friday. You will be paid every other Friday. It is recommended that you provide bank account information so that your checks can be directly deposited into your account. If you do not select to direct deposit your checks, they can be picked up in Human Resources, beginning Friday morning through the next week.
As noted above, be sure to bring enough money to live on for a few weeks. Depending on when you arrive and start working, you may not get paid for three weeks because of how our payroll cycles work. Make sure you have a little bit of a cushion until you are fully settled.
Steamboat Springs has three supermarkets—City Market, Safeway, and Natural Grocers—as well as a Walmart and lots of shops and restaurants.

- The right clothing: Ask your manager/supervisor about dress code or recommended clothing/footwear, especially if you’re working outdoors. They can give you tips for layering and staying warm and dry.
- Winter: Proper footwear is important. Walkways can be icy and snow-covered. Shoes or boots with good traction may help you navigate winter walkways. Be prepared for all weather conditions.
- Money: Depending on your timing, it could be three weeks before you receive your first paycheck. Give yourself a little wiggle room with your finances.
- Linens: If you are staying in employee housing, bring your own sheets and towels. Kitchens are stocked with general housewares.
- Backpack/Travel Bag: For transporting clothing and gear to the mountain.
- I-9 Documentation: Bring originals, no copies or faxes. See the list of acceptable documents.
Once you have been hired, you will receive an email from Alterra to log into your Workday profile. This is where you will complete your onboarding paperwork (personal information, banking, tax withholding, and employment eligibility). You will log in with the email address and password you used to apply for your job. This must be completed before your first day of work.
Note: Some tasks will appear in your inbox only after you have completed others, so continue until none remain.
After completing your online paperwork, all new employees will need to visit our HR Satellite office to bring in their I-9 documentation. You will not receive your pass or be able to begin working until onboarding paperwork has been completed and I-9s have been submitted to HR. You must bring original I-9 documentation (see acceptable documents). If you don’t have a computer or can’t figure out how to navigate Workday, please phone us at 970-871-5132 or come in and let us help you.
The federal government does not permit us to accept photocopies or faxes of documents; documents provided must be originals. SSRC now uses E-Verify, a web-based system provided by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security to confirm eligibility of employees to work in the U.S.
If you are not able to provide these documents, you will be terminated from your employment at Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation.
WARNING: Alterra does not verify the accuracy of banking information entered, so it is critical that you carefully review your entries. Bank account additions/changes will take effect within the current pay period if submitted prior to the end of the pay period. You will be able to access your earnings statement in Workday the Wednesday prior to payday; however, your money will not be available to you until payday.
